Twitter have fully enabled location for Twitter updates – Twitter updates can now include a latitude and longitude, so that followers can see exactly where your tweets are originating from. Click on the small ‘pin’ next to each location enabled tweet to see where it came from:
We’ve added this functionality to Sat2Twitter so that each update sent via SPOT Messenger, Iridium/email will not only provide an optional & clickable map reference to the update, but also update your location for each tweet through the Twitter API. To enable this functionality, send your updates as normal, but modify your Twitter settings to enable to ‘Add locations to your tweets’ as follows:
Enjoy!

Apologies for the slow catchup in fixing SPOT updating for Sat2Twitter.com. SPOT Inc changed their update email format, and we were unable to catchup to the change fast enough.
In light of the new update, Sat2Twitter.com requires your SPOT Messenger name instead of an ESN. Formally we identified your SPOT Messenger via the ESN number, however the format has changed, and all users must log into Sat2Twitter.com and update their accounts.
Finding your SPOT Messenger name: You can view the name of your messenger by logging into your SPOT account, and clicking ‘My SPOT Devices’ – To the left of the SPOT messenger icon will be the name of your messenger – Type it into your SPOT settings page within Sat2Twitter.com exactly as it’s seen on your account page, maintaining case sensitivity.
Microsoft Outlook bug: The bug which hindered users of the Microsoft Outlook email client to send updates has also been fixed.

Recently SPOT Inc made a change to their email format. We use the SPOT emails to figure out your position, map it, and tweet it.. However, with the update it has broken our ability to properly read the position emails. We are working on a fix, and hope to deploy it soon.
Otherwise the system is working as expected for Iridium/Email systems. There is a bug concerning Outlook Express which we are also working on.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience – Do not forget Sat2Twitter is still under development and is in beta!

Mapping for all geo-referenced Twitter updates on Sat2twitter.com has recently been deployed, as well as individual user mapping and the ability to embed maps. All data is also available in KML format – Nothing beats and example… See Dr Neil Hamilton attempt the North East passage in Google Earth, or view of SPOT Messenger updates from Ryan Jaffe, as he rides from Houston to Alaska:
If you’re using a SPOT Messenger or Iridium device, update your Twitter followers with geo-referenced Tweets, while also generating a real-time embeddable map. How? Simply sign up, start updating, view your map on Sat2twitter.com, and copy the embed code.

Shortcodes have now been added to our Sat2Twitter.com service, allowing users to easily intersperse the geo data retrieved from their SPOT Messengers, within Twitter updates.
It is now possible to use the shortcodes: %map%, %lat% and %long% within your Twitter update string, within the Sat2Twitter setup. As an example, a Twitter string:
My last known position via SPOT is %map% (latitude %lat%, longitude %long%)
Would be sent to your Twitter followers as:
My last known position via SPOT is http://s2t.me/s46yet (latitude 41.1109, longitude -72.3548)
The ‘http://s2t.me/s46yet’ URL is a shortened Google Maps link, containing a direct link to your updated position, using the Sat2Twitter URL shortening service.
Thank you to Roger Marsh for the valuable input and bug reporting.
